Rostelecom is a telecommunications services provider and carrier of domestic long distance (DLD) and international long distance (ILD) traffic in the Russian Federation. The Company owns and operates a trunk telecommunications network and carries the bulk of Russia's long-distance and international traffic. The Company renders domestic and international long-distance telecommunications services to end users and provides traffic throughput services to Russian operators, including each of Russia's seven inter-regional companies (IRCs) and alternative operators. In addition, the Company provides telecommunications services to various government entities across Russia and ensures the operation of the ground-based network of television and radio broadcasting channels. In December 2008, through Westelcom, its wholly owned subsidiary, Rostelecom acquired an additional 15.2% interest in CJSC Incom (Incom). In July 2008, Rostelecom acquired a 68.42% interest in OJSC RTComm.RU (RTComm.RU). In September 2008, the Company sold its 15% interest in CJSC Transportation Digital Networks.

The Company has entered into service contracts with the IRCs and other operators of local and intra-regional networks to act as its regional agents. In this capacity, the Companys agents bill end users, prepare, print and deliver invoices and collect payments from end users and perform customer service functions. Its trunk network, which transmits a Russia's domestic and international long-distance traffic, comprises approximately 150,000 kilometers of digital and analog lines.

The Companys primary network consists of trunk cables linked to th! e IRCs networks and to its international exchanges for connections with for! eign operators, as well as a satellite communications network. As of December 31, 2008, the Companys digital network comprised 49,987 kilometers, including 35,291 kilometers of fiber optic lines (FOLs) and 14,696 kilometers of digital radio-relay lines.

As of December 31, 2008, the Company owned 13 international exchanges, which allow for ILD traffic management, including four in Moscow, two in St. Petersburg (Lyuban) and one each in Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Ekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk, Kaliningrad and Murmansk. The combined capacity of these switches was 235,500 channels. In addition, the Company had 15 transit and six multi-transit domestic long-distance exchanges interconnected to its telecommunications network for traffic transit that provide access to DLD services to local users. The domestic long-distance exchanges and their connecting digital channels constitute an integrated services digital network (ISDN) with channel switches, to which the n etworks of IRCs and alternative operators are connected. The trunk exchanges of Moscow and Pavlov Posad route domestic long-distance traffic between switching centers, as well as directly to and from end users.

As of December 31, 2008, the Companys domestic long-distance trunk network consisted of 675,300 digital and 900 analog channels. Rostelecom provides domestic and international ISDN services through 76 trunk exchanges. The Company has an open network of multimedia communications. Connected to this network are subscriber units in 76 Russian regions and 13 retail outlets.

Rostelecoms main satellite communications network is operated by 16 nodal land-based stations located in Russia. The Company also operates a second satellite communications network, Reserv, which comprises one central and one periphery land-based station. To enable its operation, it leases channels from OJSC Gazcom, which operates earth satellite vehicle Yam! al-200. T! he C ompany rents domestic and international fixed satellite chan! nels from! FSUE Space Communications, CJSC SatComLine, CJSC SvyazContactInform, OJSC YamalTelecom and CJSC Zond Holding, which are Russian satellite telecommunications companies that operate satellites in the FSUE Space Communications and Intelsat systems.

While much of the fast-food industry complains about how hard restaurants were hit by the lousy winter weather, Starbucks ��which posted record quarterly results on Thursday ��is lovin' it.

The world's biggest coffee chain said that sales at stores open a year or more rose a record 6% globally for its fiscal second quarter and 6% in the U.S, too. The company said it earned $427 million, or 56 cents a share, in the quarter.

The Seattle-based company reported after the bell and its shares were up about 1.4% to $72.10 in after-hours trading on Thursday.

"Starbucks' record operating performance in Q2 demonstrates that our focus on building a different kind of company continues to drive profits and shareholder value," said CEO Howard Schultz, in a statement.

Even as Starbucks seemed to brush away the industry's winter woes, rival Dunkin' Donuts complained about them on Tuesday CEO Nigel Travis said that comp store sales growth in the U.S. was "significantly impacted" by severe weather in regions of the country where most of its Dunkin' Donuts restaurants are located.

    From a technical perspective, FRGI ripped sharply higher here right off some near-term support at $30.89 and back above its 50-day moving average of $34.23 with strong upside volume. This move pushed shares of FRGI into breakout territory, since the stock took out some near-term overhead resistance at $33.14. Shares of FRGI are now starting to move within range of triggering another key breakout trade. That trade will hit if FRGI manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance at $35.73 with high volume.

    Traders should now look for long-biased trades in FRGI as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $34.23 or above $33 and then once it sustains a move or close above $35.75 with volume that hits near or above 220,525 shares. If that breakout hits soon, then FRGI will set up to re-test or possibly take out its all-time high at $38.84. Any high-volume move above that level will then give FRGI a chance to trend north of $40.

    Darden Restaurants Inc.(DRI) said Monday that it has launched a tender offer for as much as $600 million of its debt.

    Consolidated Communications Holdings Inc.(CNSL) has agreed to acquire broadband communications provider Enventis Corp.(ENVE) in an all-stock deal that values Enventis at about $228 million. The deal values Enventis at about $16.50 a share, a 17% premium to Friday’s close.

    Darden Restaurants (NYSE: DRI) reported its second quarter results this morning. EPS of $0.20 was in line with the consensus estimate. Revenue of $2.05 billion fell short of the $2.07 billion consensus estimate. Same store sales fell 1.0 percent at Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse chains. The company reported that it plans to sell or spin off its Red Lobster business which has been one of the weakest performing brands in the company's restaurant portfolio. S&P Ratings placed the company on Creditwatch after the company revealed its plan to separate Red Lobster from its holdings. Shares lost 3.59 percent, closing at $51.02 but traded as low as $49.35.

    Brinker International Casual dining stocks aren't dead as an investment category. Investors just need to know where the tasty treats can be found on the menu. Chili's Grill & Bar parent Brinker International (EAT) moved higher on Wednesday after reporting better than expected quarterly results. Company sales climbed higher, fueled by a 0.3 percent increase in comparable-restaurant sales. Its international locations fared even better. Some casual dining chains that are bucking the general downward trend and posting positive comps are doing so by discounting aggressively to keep patrons coming. But that's not Chili's game at all. Net margins actually expanded nicely at Brinker, with adjusted earnings per share climbing 18 percent during its fiscal second quarter. The 1,557-unit Chili's chain is doing just fine. But the same can't be said about its competition. Red Ink, Ruby Ink Seeing shares of Brinker open 8 percent higher after posting better than expected quarterly results may be painful for investors in Ruby Tuesday (RT) or Red Lobster parent Darden Restaurants (DRI). Brinker International's (EAT) Chili's, DineEquity's (DIN) Applebee's, and a handful of San Francisco fine dining establishments are leading the push to add the technology, which will make waiters and waitresses less necessary. None of the chains have said that these tech initiatives will lead them to reduce waitstaff headcount -- but it doesn't take a lot of foresight to connect the dots. Hot Recreation Companies To Own For 2014

Propelled by stronger consumer spending, the U.S. economy grew in the third quarter at its fastest rate in nearly two years, the Commerce Department said Friday.

The economy expanded at an annual rate of 4.1% over the summer, the government said in a sharply increased final estimate of third quarter gross domestic product. GDP is the value of all goods and services produced in the U.S.

That's the highest since 2011's fourth-quarter estimate of 4.9%.

The Commerce Department previously pegged last quarter's expansion at an annual rate of 3.6%. The economy grew 2.5% in the second quarter of 2013.

Last quarter's better than expected performance was spurred by consumers spending more over the summer on health care, recreation and other services. Consumers also increased spending on non-durable goods, mainly gasoline and energy.

The Company�� technology digitally re-masters Hollywood films into IMAX digital cinema package format or 15/70-format film. IMAX DMR digitally enhances the image resolution of motion picture films for projection on IMAX screens while maintaining or enhancing the visual clarity and sound quality to levels for which The IMAX Experience is known. This technology enabled the IMAX theater network to release Hollywood films simultaneously with domestic release. The Company generally receives a percentage of the theater box-office receipts as a distribution fee. Films produced by the Company are typically financed through third parties, whereby the Company will generally receive a film production fee in exchange for producing the film and a distribution fee for distributing the film. The Company utilizes third-party funding for the majority of original films it produces and distributes. In 2012, the Company, along with Warner Bros. Pictures (WB) and MacGillivray Freeman Films (MFF) released an original title, To the Artic 3D: An IMAX 3D Experience.

The Company derives a small portion of its revenues from other sources. As of December 31, 2012, the Company had four owned and operated theaters.     Shares of Smith & Wesson (SWHC) have gained 17% today after the gun maker reported better-then-forecast earnings.

    Bloomberg News has the details on Smith & Wesson’s results:

    Earnings per share in the quarter ended Jan. 31, rose 35 percent to 35 cents, the Springfield, Massachusetts company said in a statement yesterday. That beat the 29 cent�average estimate of eight analysts in a Bloomberg survey. The company said it estimates full-year earnings per share of between $1.39 and $1.42, increasing its previous estimate of between $1.30 and $1.35.

    Sales of handguns, which include the company�� popular M&P pistols, grew 30 percent as the company sought to increase market share, Chief Executive Officer James Debney said in a conference call yesterday. Total revenue grew 7 percent to $145.9 million, surpassing estimates of 142.9 million. Income from continuing operations rose to $20.1 million from $17.5 million.
